Lee Mac and the Hitmen formed in late 1990 as a five piece band with a 1920’s Chicago Gangster Image. They played their first gig in Jamie’s Bar, Banbridge, they played for the first few years to create a name and become known. In 1992 they recorded their first LP, launching it in ‘The Yee Tree’, Newry. Songs of the LP got radio play and sold very well.
As many other ‘groups’ called a ceasefire in the mid nineties so did ‘The Hitmen’. Conflict over the band's name (Hit meaning Pop hits!) called for a name change to the shortened ‘The Hitmakers’. This allowed the group to get more work although the dark hat and glasses were gone.
Now in a more peaceful climate the band has returned to the original name ‘The Hitmen’.
