WHAT DO YOU GET WHEN...
YOU COMBINE A "RAT RACE ESCAPIST" AND A HIP-HOP ENTHUSIAST
WITH 5 YEARS OF MENTAL HEALTH SOCIAL WORK EXPERIENCE
AND AN INK FILLED PASSPORT?
Amy Leo is a singer-songwriter and "rat race escapist", who sent demo tapes to Laface Records and appeared on ABC with an original song at age 11. Ten years later, she quit med school and her day job in favor a more authentic and certainly more adventurous (or perhaps misadventurous!) life making music and making a difference.
The Fire in the Belly
For Amy this involves fusing her love of rap-rock music, social work, & travel in order to make an impact locally and globally.
Imagine Ed Sheeran and Lauryn Hill go to Woodstock! It would sound something like Amy's music. 1/2 soul sister. 1/2 rocker-chic. Her voice is textured with traces of P!nk, India Arie, and Fiona Apple. Influenced by Elton John, Tupac Shakur, Eminem, TLC, and the Cat Stevens, every track is dripping with raw emotion and self-expression.
Within the past 2 years, Amy has financed her own travel to SXSW, ASCAP, and to gigs in KS, TX, NE, & NYC, was accepted to an elite Artist Success Circle, met award winning producers and engineers, and has been able to spend 6 weeks this year traveling throughout England and India. All without a traditional day job (or trust fund!).
The Bottom Line
Stirring tenacity and compassion in a soulful concoction, Amy Leo and her peeps are lion-hearted; their passion for self-expression, personal empowerment, & social change is electrifying, inspiring, and contagious.
