Francisco Road is a contemporary Christian rock band performing original material and hoping to share the gospel in a relevant and meaningful way.
The members of the band all share a common heritage through our grandparents, Grover and Traci Smith, who in the 1930's loaded up th...eir possessions and nine children and journeyed from the small town of Francisco in northwest Stokes County, NC (near Brown Mountain) to settle in the Glenwood neighborhood of Greensboro. This new name gives tribute to that common heritage and by extension honors the Glenwood community and the Glenwood Presbyterian Church where we got our start in more ways than one.
Like any road, it also points toward an unknown future. The road is a metaphor for our life's walk - from the starting point of past heritage and the future point in the distance. There are twists and turns but each one of us is on our own road which will have a beginning and an end. The songs of Francisco Road talk about the road that we walk with Jesus Christ, which ends in eternal life with Him. Matthew 7:14.
One additional note about the town of Francisco. It no longer exists as an incorporated town, but as a memory. Those that knew it know that it was pronounced not as the Francisco of San Francisco but with the emphasis on the first syllable (FRAN'-sis-co). Instead of correcting everyone we run into, we're fine with the "regular" pronunciation.
