Rick Bennett / Bio

Well... It's been a long time com'n and what a strange trip it's been – but somewhere between sadness and euphoria, I’ve managed to put paper to pen (or is it the other way around?) and scribble some songs. These songs are signpost, stops along the road, markers if you will in an attempt to capture a moment or reflection…or it all could be gas. I’ve been behind six-strings for well over 35 years, had the great fortune to play with some very interesting folks along the way, many of them make their way into my ramblings. Some who should never have picked up an instrument or open their mouth to “sing” and those who simply blew me away with their talent, dedication and sheer respect for the instrument and the craft. I’ve played for guys in leather with bic lighters in their hands screaming "FREE BIRD", dudes in suits, chicks in bathing apparel, my two kids sleeping on a bench as the band wailed, youngsters, oldsters in bars, parties, picnics, social gatherings, in my basement with my best friend Rosie being the only attendee. I’ve played either very well or just plain awful – good times and bad times, dazed and confused, or just rambling on…rock, metal, country, folk, blues, rap (yep even that) and some stuff I really don’t think has a category. Through it all…music has provided me balance, a gateway, escape, outlet, joy and sadness as well as a great deal of confusion and frustration – but it’s always been there – since I first heard Elvis and picked up my dad’s Hawaiian Guitar and made noise (really that’s all it was). Until at the age 14, when I bought my first guitar, a Harmony Stella (thanks Dave) and learned Heart of Gold and then wrote my first song “Half of A Man” – I still have the Stella. To my family, you have endured this “hobby” of mine for many, many years and I hope it’s not been too much of a burden - I doubt this will ever turn into anything, at this time in my life but thanks. And thanks to all the folks I have had and will have, the pleasure and honor to share this thing we call music. It’s me who takes and appreciates what you offer. Through it
