For two time IBC semi finalist Gary Applegate, music is all about the groove. Gary believes you've got to feel it or it doesn't count. On his quest to create the perfect groove, Gary has developed a number of tools that allow him to simultaneously incorporate guitar, a baseline, foot percussion harmonica and vocals. Gary uses no backing tracks, sequencing, drum machines or looping. Everything you hear is played live! The self-designed rig allows him to passionately express a groove, using his body as an instrument. A truly a unique and dynamic presentation.
Gary performed as a solo and advanced to the semi-finals in the 2013 "International Blues Challenge" representing the Blues Jazz and Folk Music Society of the Mid-Ohio Valley.
The International Blues Challenge is the world's largest gathering of Blues acts selected through an international search by “The Blues Foundation” and its Affiliated Organizations.
In 2011 Gary, together with Sal Barbera won the “Road to Memphis” blues competition sponsored by the Dayton Blues Society and advanced to the “International Blues Challenge”.
The duo was a featured act at the “2011 Winter Blues Showcase” and represented the Dayton Blues Society in the IBC.
After three days of intense competition on Beale Street, Gary and Sal had the honor of advancing to the semi finals.
