Rob Marcus offers a fresh sound that touches on a remarkable array of influences. Inspired by his travels touring the US and abroad, his music incorporates elements of folk, rock and world beats. As a self-taught musician, Rob Marcus’ unconventional melodies satisfy a desire for the new, while his introspective lyrics explore themes both intimate and universal. His seductive vocal style is complimented by the weaving of traditional instruments with modern sounds, creating a smooth and rhythmic experience.
Marcus released a self-titled EP in March, 2011 consisting of songs he wrote while working and traveling throughout Southeast Asia immediately following the Indian Ocean tsunami in 2004. “What makes this EP so wonderful is the way it continues to reveal itself to the listener each time it’s played” (Dan Macintosh, spin.com). Shortly after the EP release, Marcus teamed up with Northwest producer Bubba Jones to begin work on a full-length album.
While Rob still loves performing solo in intimate settings, most of his performances feature a group of talented musicians he’s assembled over the last three years. The dynamic on stage “hooks you in with feel good tones and heartbreak lyrics” (Seattle Night Out Radio). Having recently returned from touring the Southwest including five unofficial SXSW showcases in Austin, TX, Rob Marcus is currently performing around his hometown of Seattle, WA, and putting the finishing touches on his first full-length album to be released on Critical Sun Recordings.
