Lucid Mechanism is the brainchild of musician and digital deviant Timo Preece. He has joined forces with vocalist/songwriter Sarah Tancer to create a sonic experience that gracefully abuses the preconceptions of live electronic music.
Stylistically expansive in nature, the Lucid set ebbs and flows through genres such as industrial, dark wave, minimal, synth pop, ambient and experimental, drawing on such influences as Portishead, Depeche Mode, Massive Attack, Nine Inch Nails, and Trentemøller to name a few.
Not unlike a moth to a flame, Timo Preece has been attracted to blinking lights and warm musical gear since childhood. He obtained his Ethnomusicology degree at UCLA and has done a number of studio recordings, projects and live performances with noteworthy individuals worldwide. Timo is a certified instructor for Ableton LIVE, Protools and Logic and does live performance set-ups and consulting for world renown profession artists. In addition, Timo teaches courses at Pyramind and Expression College for Digital Arts in the Bay Area.
Although classically trained in voice and theatre, Sarah Tancer also can’t help her fascination with computer music and anything left of center. She spent much of her stage career in New York City creating and performing experimental dance theater pieces. She is also a featured vocalist on a number of house music labels. Her songs have been played on Pete Tong’s essential mix on BBC Radio 1 and on Sirius Radio. With her keen attention to lyric craft and haunting voice she weaves a spell of storytelling through Timo’s compositions.
Together, Lucid Mechanism is the musical alchemy of structure, technology, fluidity and humanity; casting its spell with dark rhythms and ethereal melodies.
