"James Scott Bullard is a consummate, yet wildly energetic showman, who's songs are real life reflections that range from the rowdiness of a full on saloon brawl, to feeling like the melancholy comfort of a black and white movie.
Always lyrically bittersweet; It is effortless poetic bare-knuckle blues, common-man country, and middle finger roots rock & roll, all rolled into one long, tall package.
Hailing from South Carolina, Bullard’s past is fraught with love, loss, death, addiction, human suffering, torrid tales of flirting with the devil, the wrath of deep-south religion, a constant walk on a moral tightrope and more southern-gothic lore than a Tennessee Williams play.
Bullard has collected a mass amount of glowing critical reviews and had much written about his prolific songwriting and troubled past.
He has won several awards for his efforts; including three Torch Awards from New Jersey’s WDVR FM for: Artist of the Year, Alternative Country Album of the Year and the coveted Gram Parsons Cosmic American Legacy Award, recently charted at #1 for three weeks in a row on the S.C. RMR Roots Country Charts, held the #40 spot for 2 weeks in the U.S. Top 50 RMR Roots Country Charts, debuted at #13 for Dec. 2011 on the FAR (Freeform American Roots) charts, was voted one of the Top 10 of 2011 by Country Fried Rock's mountain of listeners, had his last release named “CD of the week” for the last week of Jan. 2012 by The Roots Music Revival, was added to the list of 'The Most Notable Artists in Outlaw Country' right along side the likes of Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson and a multitude of others by KBEC Radio in Texas.
In 2012 the Big Mavis Music label (formerly Yonder Music) re-released a collection of Bullard's best work to date titled: "The Rise and Fall of James Scott Bullard & The Late Night Sweethearts" which is still being added and well received by radio stations worldwide to this day.
Bullard has shared the stage with David Allan Coe, Butch Walker, Walter Egan and The Dex Romweber Duo, just to name a few, and whether in a good ol' fashioned honky-tonk or an arena, Bullard has proven time and again his uncanny ability to utterly captivate an audience.
He has been included in many tributes to the late Gram Parsons and Townes Van Zandt, garnering himself quite a cult status among the followers of such icons and their counterparts.
2014 is shaping up to be a breakthrough year with 2 new releases coming from Bullard under the Big Mavis Music label.
The Late Night Sweethearts have been a revolving door of great musicians from around the Carolinas in the past, but now Bullard has without a doubt recruited the best in S.C. with the addition of:
Guitarist/Multi-instumentalist: Jeff Springs
Bass player : Kevin Singleton
Piano/Organ: Justin Banks
Drummers: Michael Knight and Adam Brown
Vocalist: Rebecca Morning
