SMALL TOWN SHEIKS was formed in 2009 by long time musical collaborators and friends John Irizarry and Mike Smith. Their debut CD "Songs For Parker" was released in 2010 on Aurasonic Records and was produced by three time Grammy Winner, Steve Remote. Maverick Magazine, the UK's leading Americana Magazine, praised "Songs for Parker" saying that "It leaves you utterly enthralled". With a solid collection of material ranging from bluesy rockers to socially conscious multi-rhythmic journeys to achingly beautiful ballads, the record showcases John Irizarry's intimate, carefully crafted songwriting that draws from the best elements of the American musical experience. Musically punctuated by Mike Smith's expressive and uniquely original harmonica playing, "Songs For Parker" provides music that Alt.Country Forum calls "Energetic, dynamic and intense" and "immediately distinct and recognizable." The addition of World Percussionist Obi Kaye to the group in 2012 provides a polyrhythmic base that allows for instrumental explorations within the the framework of their solid collection of musical material.

Known for their live performances, which have been described as "Acoustic Cool" and "Urban Folk", SMALL TOWN SHEIKS easily navigates the musical landscape with instrumental prowess that allows them to stomp and slide between rollicking R&B to introspective storytelling. The band performs with a musical instinct and trust that only comes from years of performance. In addition to material from their first record, extended STS sets also include new songs from their upcoming collection "It Cuts Like Love" as well as the occasional, unexpected cover which is always presented with their unique interpretation.

John Irizarry (Guitar, Piano, Vocals) has been writing since he hung out as a kid in the streets of New York City.

A fan of all kinds of music, he has become an engaging story teller with a voice that aims for the heart of the listener. His songs have a personal intimacy while still being capable of speaking to a broad audience. An accomplished showman, John's live performances are engaging and powerful with the passion that comes from being a seasoned journeyman.

Mike Smith (Harmonicas, Mandolin)- Mike began playing harp when he was 6 years old. Although he would learn a variety of instruments, he chose the harp as the vehicle that best expresses the music inside him. Always an exciting player, Mike moves easily between blues, folk, standards and ballads always exhibiting a unique and versatile accomplished approach to the instrument.

Obi Kaye (World Beat Percussion) has performed various venues and styles, specializing in dance driven and improvisational rhythm. His assertive (and sometimes aggressive) style locks in on a groove and takes it right to the heart of his audience, He explores every voice the drum has to offer and constantly strives to expand each possibility. He brings a new sophistication and an understanding of many musical genres, as well as creating some new styles of his own. Obi has performed with numerous Jazz and World groups, in both live and studio settings. Obi's addition to SMALL TOWN SHEIKS has brought the band to a higher, more spiritual level and a deeper groove.
