I started playing the drums at 13 years old in middle school and began to play with other local musicians soon after to hone my skills. My step-father Tony Mallard is a very accomplished drummer and local legend in my hometown of Wilmington, N.C., where I was born and raised. Through high school I was in every band and music-based class/activity I could find. Hungry for knowledge and experience, I also participated in drum corps, doing drum camps with the DCI corps, Carolina Crown.
All throughout high school I played with many bands, barely being allowed into the bars I was booked, because of my young age. My mother was kind enough to drive me to gigs and stay with me so I could play with the other, much older and more seasoned musicians. I have slowly grown into my own person developing my drum skills and recently adding some vocal abilities to my resume. My step-father and father always told me to be as versatile and useful as possible and success will come!
I am now able to make music full time, and it is a dream come true!! I have played with countless bands including, Clone Cycle, The Jam Sandwich Band, The Southern Fried Band, The Pantastic Steel Drum Band, Michelle and the Midnight Blues Band, The Chickenhead Blues Band, Machine Gun and many more. Playing with so many different groups has allowed me to play all over the U.S. and even make it to the International Blues Competition in Memphis Tennessee. I have also been able to play at the House of Blues in Myrtle Beach numerous times. I currently DJ and play live music with my acoustic act, Dane Britt Acoustic or with my band The Dane Britt Band almost every night of the week. Beat Transformers is my latest project with DJ Icon and it has had much success also!!
