Mary Water is a NJ native who has lived in Olympia, WA since 1992. Her influences include Sleater-Kinney, Cat Power, Sufjan Stevens, Jolie Holland, Santigold, Kristin Hersh, Operation Ivy and The Cars. She has played with bands such as Little Red Car Wreck & Circles & Squares. Her albums, (Happy Halloween, Motor Like a Mother, School Bus, Airplane, and The Night) tell stories of grocery stores, messy living rooms, Pacific Chorus Frogs, hospital visits, and roller-derby bouts, and reveal themes of domination, manipulation, sublimation, desperation, death, destruction, addiction, forgiveness, hope, and the collapse of society.
Mary is currently working on picking up where artist Sufjan Stevens left off, recording albums for each state (Michigan, Illinois, etc.). Her album for Washington State will be released in fall 2011 if Mt. Rainier or a tsunami doesn't end it all before then.
