I started playing guitar about thirty years ago and as recently as 2007 was convinced that I had no talent and should just stop. Then I got divorced, the dam broke, and life started over. I call 2008 my crossroads year. Suddenly, I could play and I could hear. It was a little freaky.
When I'm not obsessed with music I run the Real Change homeless newspaper in Seattle, which I founded in 1994. I've been a social justice activist and writer on issues of poverty, race, and class for most of my life. Playing, singing, and writing music helps keep me centered, and reminds me it's all about the love
