In a day and age where new artists explode on to the scene and then crash and burn just as quickly, Singer songwriter Liesl Graham has proved to be the real deal. Producing quality music and her trademark ‘songs of substance’. Her 1st album, Something to Believe was released through Gallo records and produced the hit singles, ‘All Roads’ and ‘Next to You’. The album was nominated for a SAMA award, and her songs were included on best selling compilations such as ‘The Hits’ and ‘Homegrown’ albums. Her first album garnered her such praise as ‘SA’s best songwriter’, and was widely hailed as ‘a significant album’ and South Africa’s answer to Sheryl Crow.
Her 2nd album Chrysalis was released in 2008 by indie label, Loneroc Records. The first 3 singles off Chrysalis, ‘Faithless Heart’, ‘Hold Me’ and ‘Go Home’ have been playlisted around the country and charted as a top ten hit on numerous stations nationwide. The single ‘Hold Me’ held an incredible 6 weeks at number 1 on the 94.7’s local chart, and was played an every 6 hrs on high rotation. ‘Go Home’ was number 1 an incredible 4 times.
Chrysalis has been described by critics as ‘an impeccably produced, outstanding rock effort’ and ‘ a must-have’ album.
The singles were supported with the release of 3 music videos, and received huge exposure through Liesl’s appearances and interviews on numerous TV shows on DSTV, SABC and ETV and MK. She has also featured in several print media publications such as The Citizen, Cleo magazine, Get it magazine (cover), Fourways review and many more as well as The Herald newspaper, the Cape Times and You magazine among others. Liesl’s song all roads was featured on the soundtrack to the hit TV show, Going Nowhere Slowly.
Liesl Graham is soon set to release her 3rd Studio album having once again worked with many of South Africa’s top musicians, and exploring new touches like live brass and string recordings. The album is a sonic landscape of soaring melodies and heartfelt emotion. With songs ranging from Liesl’s own haunting experience of domestic abuse in ‘Lullaby’ to catchy, sing – along anthems like ‘Let us be one’, it is her most personal offering to date.
A seasoned live performer, Liesl has performed extensively both in the local and international markets. From top local festivals such as Splashy Fen, Oppikoppi, and Aardklop, her music has also taken her across the globe to Germany, Los Angeles, New York and the Seychelles.
Liesl also performs for many Corporate clients, including Fendi, Cinnamon Communications, NTP, Morells Boutique Venue, MTN. Liberty as well as the Top Billing monthly lifestyle workshops. She has performed alongside legendary artists such as Lady Smith Black Mambazo and Mandoza, Andy Innes, Claire Johnston and Johnny Clegg.
