Princess Menen / Bio

Yaa’Asantewaa Lewis, professionally known as Princess Menen was born in Brooklyn, New York, but her island flair comes from her Caribbean background. With her array of influences, her musical sound is a little different. She grew up listening to different types of music and learned to appreciate various genres including Reggae, Country, Hip Hop, R&B, Soca and Electronic Dance Music; because of this, you’re able to hear this unique, eccentric sound in her music and in her delivery.

Even though Princess Menen was always passionate about creating music, It wasn’t until she was literally pushed on stage back in 1998 where she allowed the crowd to determine her fate. “The response from the crowd influenced me”, she states. “I never looked at myself as a singer or performer, it was a hobby for me but this experience let me know that this was something that I should do. Their reaction was awesome.” That same year she met Lauryn Hill and also gained the opportunity to open a concert for Capleton. Since then she's performed at events such as Reggae Carifest, Reggae Splash, Irie Jamboree, New York-Miami Linkup and the most recent Groovin In The Park. Her performances carried her throughout the US, the Caribbean, Europe and Africa.
