"You're like Charles Ives if he was a genius chick, wow, you're amazing, complex beautiful pieces. Pretty amazing,
these tracks of yours are tremendous. Bravo Kim Kalesti". Martin Olson

"Such amazing music". Maria Brodskaya

“Kim Kalesti packages her three bright octaves around an often vibrant, often haunting, repertoire. She's a straight-ahead singer who needn't and doesn't, over-embellish her delivery with pretentious drama. No show and tell animation, just the succinct storytelling ability of a fine phrased. Accompanying her is pianist Mulgrew Miller, a player with considerable taste and invention.”

The Bitter End (N.Y.C) The Bitter End, New York's fabled nightclub, could not have been prepared for the Tour De Force of Ms Kim Kalest's new band KIMISTRY. While many hard core crooners and jazz performers are content to chase the ghosts of Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie and Billy Holiday, Ms Kalesti's new group owes little to old tradition. She presented a program of all original songs, in which her talents as an improvisational singer were showcased. Many of us have been wondering what will the next new thing be in music. Ms.Kalesti and KIMISTRY may well be part of the answer. The songs also broke with the traditional song forms and were characterized by Ms Kalesti's free improvised melismas grounded on driving ostinatos from her band members. This was a courageous effort by Ms Kalesti and certainly, in this reviewers opinion, deserves to be heard, and will surely be emulated by musicians world-wide who are searching for new ways to express freedom in their voices and on their instruments. Kimistry

Kim Kalesti (also known as Kim Shaw) is a natural born singer whose passion and drive secured her the right to learn and perform with the greatest Jazz Musicians of the 20th century. Throughout her memorable career she has been invited to perform for and with Dizzy Gillespie, Tony Bennett, Billy Eckstine, Carmen McCrae, Jack Jones and George Clinton.
Growing up in the 60's as the youngest member of an extremely popular sister-trio "The Kalesti Sisters," Kim had the opportunity and experience of performing on live television and in venues all around her home state of Colorado from the age of 5. By 7 years old she had an agent, choreographer and an offer to sign with Universal Pictures. Kim continued honing her talent with her sisters and independently throughout high school, traveling to sing with the Houston Pops Orchestra and recording radio jingles regularly for regional businesses.
At 21 she embarked on her first European tour as Kim Shaw in Sweden for 6 months, where she performed for Stevie Wonder and Heads of State from around the world. She returned home and quickly moved to New York where she landed a show in NY at Lush Life, a major stage in Manhattan, performing on the bill for greats such as Eartha Kitt, Abbey Lincoln and Johnny Hartman. Soon she was performing at venues around the city such as The Blue Note, Fat Tuesday's and Alice Tully Hall. She recorded her first big band album "Inside," produced by Don Elliot, in 1983 and in 1991 she secured a major record deal with her singing partner Marion Cowings and they recorded "Kim and Marion" and "If You Could See Me Now" with EmArcy Records, produced by Kyoshi "Box-Man" Koyama, the editor of Swing Journal.
She performed memorable concerts for notable Arts In Education programs such as "Young Audiences," and Lincoln Center's "Meet the Artists" program. She continued in educational work co-founding the Jazz Vocal program at NYU, where she taught for many years and mentored students such as "Avenue Q" writer Jeff Marks
Kalesti now performs around the world at major venues and festivals, including The Blue Note jazz clubs in Japan, The North Sea Jazz Festival in the Netherlands, the West Berlin Philharmonic, The Ottawa International Jazz Festival and the Pori Jazz Festival in Finland. She has been interviewed and heralded by The New York Times, WBGO, Newsday, The New York Post, The Swing Journal, Jazz Life and Downbeat, and featured on Nick at Nite and NPR. Amidst all these career highlights, she also raised two children who are now successful musicians, R&B Artist, Tap Dancer and Composer AC Lincoln and 2008 Grammy Nominated Singer and Songwriter Emily King.
