The Afro-Cuban jamming of Santana, the storytelling sensibility of Billy Joel and the jazz rock underpinnings of Steely Dan and Chicago: Franklin’s Wheel stews these influences and more in the ajiaco of cultures that defines the band’s hometown of Miami, FL.
The soulful grooves of Franklin’s Wheel will take you on a journey through various moods, sounds and rhythms incorporating elements of jazz, acoustic music, Latin influences and classic rock. The band’s music is arranged to allow room for musical freedom and exploration, so no two Franklin’s Wheel performances are alike.
Franklin’s Wheel features Juan Gil on vocals, Mike Matthews on guitar, Brian Smith on keyboards, Christian Russo on sax and flute, Robert Barcelo on drums, Andrew Herero on bass, and Joe Collado on percussion. The band was born out of a desire to explore jazz/rock fusion in a contemporary alternative rock/jam band format that pays homage to the rootsy fusion sound of the 1970s. The band members are all seasoned veterans of the South Florida music scene and beyond, and bring their diverse influences together in a unique blend of styles.
The band released their first full-length album, entitled Now, in November, 2012. Now is available at shows and through various online sources (click on "the Wheel Store" tab above).
Franklin's Wheel is currently performing throughout South Florida and beyond.
