Cecil A. Phillips Jr. AKA “CJ ”, was born March 25th, 1981 Oakland, California. Standing approximately 6 feet tall, his main interests are music production, arranging & composition, singing, photography and graphic art. Being a gifted, multitalented young craftsman, who plays keyboard, bass guitar and drums, CJ has no problems creating and producing original material at a rapid pace.
His love for music has made him an innovative and versatile composer/arranger who has created a menagerie of melodies, expanding his repertoire in many different styles that includes R&B, Gospel, Jazz, Hip Hop, Blues, Country, Pop, Rock, Latin, Reggae, Afro/Caribbean Soca and Calypso. Although very proficient in each style of music, he is recognized mostly for his Gospel and R&B compositions, which are his two favorite styles. CJ very often combines different styles of traditional music together to form a more contemporary style with its own unique flavor.
Coming from a devout church-going family background, CJ’s interest in music was strong from an early age and he began playing drums at his grandfather’s church at the age of 10, followed by the bass guitar at age 14 and eventually gravitated to the keyboard in his late teens. Being a strong believer in God, CJ can often be found in church playing keyboard or drums and occasionally sings. He has also been a background vocalist for Gospel recording artist Lawrence Matthews.
His present goal is to become a top rated R&B singer/ entertainer and producer. CJ appreciates a good challenge and sees no limit to what he can accomplish and eventually would like to explore the realm of acting in future. CJ is a humble and likable young man whose ideals and virtues makes him evidently noble with integrity being his best asset.
