Americana singer/songwriter Blake Lankford’s music combines the raw, heartfelt honesty of country music with the moody unpredictable breathe of a folk singer born in the grunge era. Born in Oklahoma, Lankford began playing drums for a gospel band (Hearts of Fire) at age 10. Absorbing the prominent hymn based style and shedding the religious boundaries, 16 year old Lankford then joined two country bands (Sean Adair in 1998, The Lonesome Few in 2006), where he would begin playing bigger shows with bigger names, such as Tracy Byrd, Confederate Railroad, and Billy Joe Shaver. In 2007, The Lonesome Few would be recognized as the #1 Country Band in Oklahoma City, OK (Oklahoma City Gazette). After spending endless hours writing songs and learning the guitar, Lankford then began a string of solo projects (The Coats, The Cold Roses, The Blake Lankford Band) that would lead to a relentless show schedule and flurry of albums, most notably ‘Hearts Don’t Have Glue’ and ‘The End of A Beautiful Start’. After being recognized by grunge era cult band leader David Lowery (Cracker, Camper Van Beethoven) as a “unique and necessary songwriter”, Lankford moved to Nashville in 2009, hoping to grow as an artist and as a writer.
Now, With Rock'n'Roll roots once again planted firmly within Oklahoma's Red-Dirt, Blake Lankford concludes a 2 year stint in Nashville and returns to the heartland with a brand new record 'Goodbyes & Bad Breakups'. The upcoming release features the first single, 'The Closest Thing To You', which combines powerful harmonies, haunting melodies, and cleverly honest lyrics. Catchy drinking songs combine with powerful harmonies to create an energetic, and entertaining live show.
