Reggae singer and songwriter Michael “Mykal” Martin aka “Missionary” (was born June 12th 1969 in the parish of St Catherine, Guy’s Hill, Jamaica.
From a young age Missionary had a passion and love for music, growing up listening to artists and bands such as; Israel vibration, the acts of apostles, Jacob miller, Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Admiral Tibet , all inspirations of his music.
Missionary’s first job was working as tailor, being that his father was a tailor everything came easy to him...it’s in the genes. He then went on to work for a security company based in Portmore. During this time he was writing songs but never took it seriously, till moving back to Guy Hill where he linked up with KARIANG PRODUCTIONS, who also at the time housed artists such as Sizzla, culture knocks, Bernie spear, Danny p, steady ranks and much more.
Missionary worked with KARIANG PROUCTIONS for 5 years using this time to not only make music but to also learn the business side of the industry. During his time with the production team he also made his debut performance at the “GARNET SILK B-DAY” in Mandeville where he performed 2 of his songs released by the company, “We dun know” which received small radio recongination and his more popular song “Gimme the sesemina “
In 2013 after taking a break from performing to get him together and work on his song-writing, Missionary his preparing the release of his debut single “WHAT LIFE WOULD BE LIKE”. 2013 also saw Missionary feature on the “WONDER EXPLOSION” mix CD, which also featured his new label colleagues at WONDER MUSIC entertainment.
