Rude Mechanicals / Bio

The mysterious and ethereal Miss Roberts along with her Rude Mechanicals is a whirlwind of strange songs, sounds and looks. Miss Roberts is the leader and her flamboyant persona has become the look of the band.

She put together an act combining surreal stories, poetry and songs. Performing at the e-soiree in Cambridge UK she met the courageous experimental musicians Dr Cos Chapman and Guy Avern who became the Rude Mechanicals, later to be joined by the genius of Lynda Beast (Dylan Bates) and the mastery of Tommy G the android drummer.

The band has featured in Bizarre Magazine, is played regularly on Resonance FM, and had national airplay on the BBC. as well as being picked up Irwin Chusid - Journalist and DJ of New York's WFMU Radio. Collaborators include Sexton Ming (Medway Poets) and Jowe Head (Swell Maps, Demi Monde); while Everett True (Village Voice), Rob Ellis (PJ Harvey, Spleen) and Django Bates (Loose Tubes etc.)have all been pleasantly surprised by their music.

Their most recent performance was at the prestigious Chelsea Arts Club and bookings later this year include the Cambridge Strawberry Fair Festival and the WOMAD festival.

The Art-rock inspired wizardry of Rude Mechanicals has been compared to The Tiigerlillies, Tom Waits. Captain Beefheart, Frank Zappa, The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band and even Miles Davis, altogether creating a music that can best be described as “wild, wicked weirdness” (Tom Robinson BBC6).
