Hi! I’m Amy Edwards. This EP, Ghosts and Saints, is my first solo effort - and my first released recording, ever.
I titled the EP Ghosts and Saints because while working on this album, I found myself haunted by the past but hopeful for what the future holds. I had to work hard let go of fear in order to live my dreams.
All five songs are written by me (with some lyrics co-written by my husband, Kevin Green) and masterfully arranged, produced and mixed by Dwight Baker (Kelly Clarkson, Bob Schneider, Zeale, The Wind + the Wave) of Matchbox Studios in Austin, Texas. Recorded in the fall and released January 14, 2014, it is essentially a guitar-driven rock album, but it holds onto melodic structure and a pop vibe.
I first picked up a guitar just over three years ago, when I was 38 years old and had two young kids. The makeshift band I helped found went from moms-doing-it-for-fun to something much more serious. I discovered a love and a passion for music that I never knew I possessed, and I wanted to devote more time to writing, learning, and recording.
When our band diverged this past summer (hence the “Ghosts”), I found myself on my own. So I wrote all new material and turned it into an EP.
I am fortunate to live in Austin and have the opportunities it provides for musicians. I am currently writing a full album and set to record at Matchbox in early May. I am growing as an artist and look forward to incorporating new inspirations, which I find everywhere, every day.
