Ghanniyya Green and Friends / Bio

A singer’s singer, a musician’s songstress, and a listeners delight. The

result is pleasure to the soul and an adventure in music that has not been

heard for years. Throughout her career, such words as “Magical, Powerful,

Wonderful, and Emotional” are used to describe this lady of song.

She has claimed and taken the flavor of her roots as a native New Yorker to

project high drama and emotion theatrical vignettes into her style of singing.

She has style, attitude, and a direct connection to the lyrics of the songs she

sings. A mature and solid vice is heard from this lady from several New

York Venues.

She has appeared at the Blue Note, The Village Gate, Dangerfield’s, The

Cotton Club, Birdland and New York’s Sadri’s. Other audiences have

included large corporate sponsors such as Citicorp, J.P. Morgan Chase,

and many universities, various museums across the country including an

appearance at the U.S. Naval Academy.

Her accomplishments extend to radio, television, film, and theatre. She

has left her impressions and is now being called again to international

settings from France to Japan. The voice is being heard around the world.

She is known by giants in the jazz world such as Max Roach, Larry Ridley,

Etta Jones, Dakota Stanton, Richard Weyands, Harold Maybern, Pharaoh

Saunders, Jeff “Tain” Watts, Joe Locke, Della Griffin, Frank Owens,

Houston Pearson, Art Blakely Jr., Sting, and Bradford Marsalis.

Winner of the 1999 Dakota Stanton Award for most promising Jazz

vocalist, The American Review of Jazz and Blues has said she “…..sings

with a Diva’s sense of high drama” and New York Perspectives says she

“…….packs emotional theatrical vignettes into her stylized jazz singing.”
