Nic Thomas is a singer/songwriter who hails from Cardiff, Wales. Drawing from influences as varied as Bruce Springsteen, Jimmy Eat World, Aerosmith, The Gaslight Anthem and Ryan Adams, Nic fuses stories of love, human relationships and growing up with uplifting and powerful melodies.
Nic was born in Newport, South Wales and raised in Caldicot as the youngest of three children. Nic first attempted to play guitar after his brother bought him an acoustic guitar at the age of 12. Being unashamedly addicted to music through early listening’s of Bon Jovi, Def Leppard and Aerosmith, he knew that music would play a huge part in his life.
He began songwriting at the age of 16 and in 1997 formed Caldicot band Stormflies and later formed Cardiff band This Motion Picture in 2002.
After many great experiences This Motion Picture disbanded and Nic decided to become a solo artist focusing on more folk/alt country/acoustic sounds being influenced by Ryan Adams, Bruce Springsteen and Jeff Buckley.
He laid down an unofficial EP of live home recordings entitled “Rough with the Smooth” before pulling a together a group of friends to record the first official release, 2012’s Sha La La. The release saw a number of acoustic solo shows mixed with full band performances.
Being described as “Humble and sweet yet with some irresistibly catchy moments”*, Sha La La is five tracks all dealing with different experiences of the human condition and relationships and is a running theme throughout the record.
Nic worked with producer Jake Tilley on Sha La La and describes the record as “a full stop on a lot of things. It was the record I knew I had to make and get out there in order to move forward, both personally and musically”.
Nic is now finishing off demos to which will be his debut full-length album.
