First and foremost, E.Joseph and The Phantom Heart is a rock band slugging it out in an era of music trickery. There's a sonic aesthetic to their music, where amped guitar, and bass and drums lay the foundation for piano and synths to weave in and out--with relevant lyrics and distinctive baritone melodies--leaving the listener with songs that pay homage to the earworm power of the hook.
In 2004, Edward Joseph Neenan (aka E.Joseph), a Pop-Rock Veteran-in Baltimore through his journeyman work with power-pop bands Splitsville and Myracle Brah and his own bands, Bunny and 360 Loose, decided to launch out on his own with a new and somewhat different sounding crop of songs. With a beat up acoustic guitar, an assortment of effects pedals, and a cassette boom box with homemade drum beats on tape he released 2006’s Absinthe Minded under the pseudonym E.Joseph. The album would serve as the seedling that would later mature into the band, E.Joseph and The Phantom Heart, now located in Philadelphia.
“All the Medicine in the World…” was the first full band release from E.Joseph (whose given name is Edward Joseph Neenan) and Phantom Heart band mates Nick Porcaro, Spacey Cuellar, and Mia Regalado. Prior to the release of “Medicine” E.Joseph also released a live solo CD recorded at Rams Head On Stage in Annapolis, MD entitled, “The Rules of Engagement” in 2006.
Based in Philadelphia, PA and Silver Spring, MD, E.Joseph and The Phantom Heart infuse post-punk leanings, a la 80s-era Brit Pop, and American indie guitar/electro rock (Google: 120 Minutes). The 4-piece band comprises E.J Neenan (vocals, guitars), Mia Regalado (bass, backing vocals), Nick Porcaro (drums), and Spacey Cuellar (keyboards). It’s been said the band’s live shows add a more rock-punk angst than the deft indie pop rock sound their records project which has kept the band a live act favorite. In 2008, E.Joseph and the Phantom Heart released “All the Medicine in the World…” to favorable reviews from the indie music press, in 2009 they released “The Ghosts Around You,” a 3-song maxi-single mixed by Armando Cuellar in Miami and Matthew Leffler-Schulman in Baltimore. Currently, the band can be heard on Pandora.com, iTunes, Amazon.com, and other digital music outlets as well as select AAA and college/independent radio stations. The band recorded their new full album, "Burn All the Documents, at Mobtown Studios in Baltimore and tapped Omar Cuellar, once again, to mix it in Miami, FL. The new CD released on March 29, 2013, and is now available for download on iTunes, Amazon.com, eMusic, and other sites globally.
