Born in a strict household as the middle child in Cleveland, Ohio, Jay Wells has done more than make his parents happy. From elementary school, middle school, high school and now college, Jay Wells finds his happiness in his relationship with God, family and writing music. Jay Wells was bullied as a child and knew he had to find an outlet and find it fast. So he started where every kid would go: playing an instrument and getting into the school choir. It was then, in the third grade, when he discovered he had a talent. Wells first begin playing the Clarinet and mastered all of the basics after he had been playing it for two weeks. He then moved on to the Alto Saxophone. After playing both instruments, Jay Wells still sensed a void in his talent career. Sports, and playing two instruments, seemed to be his only outlet. As he went on, his love for music begin to grow, it wasn’t long before people would point at him and say ‘that’s the boy who can sing really well.’ It was his freshman year in high school when people noticed Jay Wells’ talent. With him valuing his spirituality and his connection with his family, his mother has always taught him: God first, family second, and everything else falls into place. Amongst him making plans, mixes and practicing for his own show, Jay Wells would soon get a break from working diligently on his music, a gift that he could give all of his supporters, except one. On July 18, 2013, Jay Wells’ number one supporter, his grandmother, passed away. Wells and his grandmother had the type of bond that no one could break. Whenever he needed her, she was always there. In Fall 2013, Jay Wells dropped his first mixtape, “Essence of the Heart” with the first single “Turning Me On'' which went on to receive over 5,000 views and 600 downloads. He later released “PS.A.” which received over 4,000 plays and 1,000 downloads. After the success of those two songs Jay Wells released “Gone.” “Gone” would receive over 1,000 views on youtube, and over 1,000 downloads. Other singles such as“Novocane,” “Ocean View,” and Heaven or Hell, would all go to be released after his successful single and video. As Wells continues his musical journey, he hopes his relationship with God continues to grow. He wants to remain humble, a graduate and make his family proud and continue to provide great music for his supporters to love. Look out for Jay Wells in 2014!
