Tracy Garrity Martone: Vocals, Bass, Drums, Keys
Shawn Garrity: Vocals, Guitar, Bass, Drums, Keys
Once upon a time Tracy and Shawn were a struggling multi-instrumental sibling rock band. Then, on the way home from a gig one night, they decided to quit wasting their time with music and pursue more lucrative careers. Suddenly a freak storm approached and they were transported into the future - a dark and desolate place devoid of art, music and civilization. A tribe of nomads called The Vulz took them in and explained that a search for their ancestors brought The Vulz to Tracy and Shawn, which is why they transported the two into the future. The Vulz explained that by returning to their present day and continuing to follow their hearts and rock out, Tracy and Shawn have the power to change the future and prevent this dismal fate. So, the Vulz adorned the siblings in their traditional warrior garb, bestowed mystical powers upon them, lent their name to the duo (hence VulGarrity) and sent them back to the present, where they currently carry out their mission to save the world through music.
Since returning from the future, their journey has brought the siblings several memorable experiences, such as winning first place in 95.5 WBRU’s 2011 Rock Hunt, winning first place in 90.7 WXIN’s 2010 Rock Hunt, obtaining an endorsement deal with Digitech (http://www.digitech.com/en-US/artists/vulgarrity) and a development contract with MySpace Records, nominations for “Best Act” and “Best Breakthrough Act” in the 2011 and 2012 Providence Phoenix Best Music Poll, and the opportunity to star in the 7-episode web series “VulGarrity: The Series” http://www.vulgarrity.fourfour.com/page:vulgarrity_the_series.
Their dedication to their mission has brought the duo across the USA and back several times, sharing the stage with several notable acts along the way, including Sleeper Agent, The Joy Formidable, Mike Doughty, Days of the New, The Misfits, King’s X, Sponge, Psychostick, The Prodigals and Ra.
Their approach to live performance is just as unique as their story. Tracy and Shawn play every instrument themselves…at the same time. The use of loop pedals allows the dynamic duo to play drums, guitar, bass and keys, all while executing tight vocal harmonies. That’s not all – they switch instruments, too – usually several times during a show, sometimes within the same song, without missing a beat. Sure, other acts use samples and loop pedals on stage, but the difference is nothing is pre-recorded – the riffs are recorded live in front of the audience and then started and stopped during the song, while other instruments are being played, to create the effect of a full band. How do they do this? Come to a live show and see for yourself. You just might experience something that will change your life. All you have to do is listen.
