Jodie Stubbs has worked as a professional singer for many years. With a finely honed stage presence and talent for engaging her audience, she has performed all over the place – back bars in Tokyo , cruise ships, bars in Singapore, theme parks, countless weddings , country racecourses, corporate Christmas parties, Cabaret clubs and plenty of front bars in Sydney. But, no matter where she’s played, no matter what the genre, it has always been the songs of others.
Jodie has long held a desire to create something heartfelt of her own. Finally she has decided to change tack in her artistic journey. It’s a brave decision to take, to step well outside one’s comfort zone.
Inspired by the introspective honesty and panache of Jewel, the power and occasional vitriol of Alanis Morrisette , and by the melodicism and versatile sensibility of Sheryl Crow, Jodie’s songs are candid, soulful and earnest .
In collaboration with producer Dave Longo, the songs of her debut EP have been recorded by some of Sydney’s finest session musicians. Longo has carefully crafted these colourful instrumental pieces, which sit within the gritty side of pop rock, infused with the groove of southern rock, with flourishes of reggae and a cheeky dash of funk.
As a singer Jodie has a confident and powerful voice and knows how to stop short of over doing. These songs have Jodie’s voice and Dave Longo’s production combining fruitfully.
This is a beginning. Jodie is still finding her voice, her own identity as an artist. In making this tangible step forward, she knows she’ll never have to live with the regret of not fulfilling this urge to create something of her very own. And she’s hoping you’ll share this journey with her.
