Wendela van Swol was born in The Hague (Netherlands), where she studied both her bachelors and masters degree at the Royal Conservatory of Music with the renowned flutists Frans Vester and Paul Verheij (soloflute with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra)
She attended summer courses and "masterclasses" with Peter-Lukas Graf, Olivier Messiaen, Trevor Wye, Geoffrey Gilbert, Frans Brüggen, Barthold Kuyken, Sophie Cherrier, André Jaunet and Stephen Preston.
She freelanced with several of the Dutch professional orchestras in the Netherlands, participated in meetings of young European musicians in the Provence (France) and was a member of the Dutch Student Chamberorchestra(Nesko) . She has been very active in chamber ensembles (duos, trios and quartets) performing in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, England, Spain, USA and Italy. She has recorded for the Dutch radio and television and has performed at the Royal Palace in The Hague with her trio at a dinnerparty for the U.S. president being invited by Queen Beatrice of the Netherlands.
She settled in Spain in 1991 after winning the audtion for co-principal flute in the newly formed Orchestra of the Principality of Asturias (OSPA). She moved to Cordoba in October 1992 after becoming the principal flute of the Orchestra of Cordoba, to voluntarily resign in December 2008.She has repeatedly been invited as soloist under the baton of maestro Leo Brouwer and has also played the Spanish premiere of his Balada for flute and string orchestra. With the orchestra she has recorded a dozen of CDs for the labels, EMI, Sony, GHA and Naxos. In August 2007 she was invited by "the Concertparty" as a soloist in the Suite No. 2 by JS Bach for some benefit concerts in England. More recently she also performed Mozarts G Mayor concierto with the Orchestra of Córdoba with maestro Manuel Hernández-Silva in April 2012.
She is regularly invited to give courses and trainings on flute repertoire and interpretation or orchestral repertoire such as at the Youth Orchestras of Andalucia and Málaga, the Royal Conservatory of Music in Madrid, the Istituto Superiore di Studi Musicali in Livorno (Italy), The Music department of the University College in Ghent ( Belgium) the Conservatory of Seville, Málaga, Lucena, Jaén, Pamplona,Cádiz, and the Municipal Band of San Fernando (Cádiz).
She has been a member of the jury of international flute competition “FLAUTA Andalusia "since its first edition and is its president since 2008.
She is vice-president of the Spanish national Flute association AFE since 2011.
She has recorded for the Spanish Classic Radio, with the Zahira Trio (flute, viola and harp), the Zahira Ensemble (flute, violin, viola and cello) and with pianist Santiago Baez. She was invited to give a recital with pianist Emilio J. García during the First flute Convention in Madrid in April 2010.
He has published several articles in Spanish and Dutch flute related magazines
Since September 2004 she teaches flute and orchestral excerpts at the Superior Conservatory de Música "Rafael Orozco" in Córdoba
