Leland was formed in 2013 by identical twin brothers Bryan and Brandon Ewing (aka Mr. Sticks and Dong), who not only share the exact same DNA, but also share the gift of exceptional musical talent. Bass player Miles Dohoney (aka Miles D), successfully rounds out this unique rock trio with his energy and style.
The twins describe themselves as once being "poor, punk skater kids" that could have easily gone down a path of self-destruction, but instead discovered an escape from their volatile surroundings around the age of fifteen by playing music together. While many of their family and friends were plagued by other addictions, they became addicted to their music. Influenced by bands such as Violent Femmes, Jane’s Addiction, RHCP, NIN, Smashing Pumpkins, Alice In Chains, Jimmy Hendrix, Chemical People, Swag, The Skatnigs, Sinead O'Conner, and Jesus and Mary Chain, their music has evolved into a unique style that is tough to put a label on, but could be described as an epic, alternative style that blends rock, punk, progressive, and acoustic genres.
In 2000, Bryan and Brandon, along with their cousin Jay Dunn as front man and bass player, started the rock band Sedium. Although the band experienced much success, and built up a solid fan base, this endeavor became just a step in their music career when the band dismantled in 2009. The twins then spent the next four years practicing, and writing new music together at their Austin, TX studio. The challenge for them before playing live again, was finding a bass player that would mesh well, and bring a similar outlook on what they wanted to achieve with their music. In 2013 the rock band Leland was formed, and the twins welcomed bass player Miles D. Miles has proven to be the “machine who hurls his tick-tock thunder” and the final piece of the puzzle needed for the band to run amuck with their plan to dominate the world of Rock n’ Roll.
“When we were young we wandered endlessly; without parents; without guides. We crossed tracks. We climbed trees. We found our way beneath the cities. We fought wars on open shores and it was beautiful. Our faces painted in spit and crushed rocks. Behind biker bars, and in and out of smoky old honkytonks, we made our games and played them well. Swinging over creeks on old vines that had no business carrying small wild passengers; walking for what seemed like eternities in days, we held our course and we were never thirsty. In many ways we are still those wild and reckless children playing our game; chasing the sun; determined; romanced by the adventure; never seeking the end.” ~Leland
