Why does Aubrey only use one name? Because with the flat-out speed of her astonishing race to the top of the charts, there just wasn’t time for two! Her ferocious Groovilicious debut single, “Stand Still”, written by Aubrey and produced by Remixer of the Year 2001” Grammy Winner, Hex Hector and Dezrok, hit #1 on the Billboard Hot Dance/Club Play Chart on October 6, 2001, mere weeks after its release. The song writing team of Hex Hector, Dezrok & Aubrey won an ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Award for writing one of the best dance songs of that year!
But while “Stand Still” was her first recording under her own name, Aubrey’s groove was locked into her DNA from the very beginning. Born in Philadelphia to a musical family, she was raised immersed in the music that flowed from her father, a bass player, and her mother and aunt, both singers. Aubrey began her recording career at age 6 and had become a seasoned performer by the time she began appearing on a nationally televised dance show at age 13. Throughout her teens, Aubrey became a sought-after backup vocalist in Philadelphia’s demanding music scene. She’d also honed her performance skills until she became one of the city’s hottest club dancers.
That was how Aubrey found herself at Philly’s legendary Egypt Nightclub on the Waterfront one pivotal night when incendiary DJ Hex Hector took over the turntables. Aubrey hopped into the DJ booth, hit Hex with a riveting acappella performance of Toni Braxton’s “Unbreak My Heart” and lit the fuse that exploded into “Stand Still.”
Aubrey has worked with countless producers from around the world over the last decade and penned some of the fiercest tracks ever mastered. Unstoppable and impossible to resist, Aubrey’s unprecedented blast to the top of the charts is merely the overture. “Stand Still”? You won’t be able to…and neither will Aubrey!
