Two guys who rock.
Two voices who sing tight harmony.
Two musicians who consider it an honor to play songs by The Beatles, The Stones, Rockpile, The Byrds and Neil Young.
Meet The Bremners.
The duo—guitarist/vocalist Rob Skane and bassist/vocalist Mike Lisi—also play their own songs. And they love it when people dance, and sing along as they make the rock and the roll.
“That’s what it’s all about,” said Skane.
Skane and Lisi have known each other since the 1980s, but the pair’s musical paths didn’t cross until 2012, when Lisi joined Albany area rockers the Rob Skane 3. The Bremners are an offshoot of the RS3, which is still rocking the Capital Region.
“The `3’ is a high-powered rock act and we wanted to do something a bit more acoustic,” Lisi explains.
The Bremners, named for Rockpile guitarist Billy Bremner, aren’t your wimpy, run-of-the-mill acoustic duo. These guys play and sing with passion and with heart. After all, they cover songs by Lou Reed, Buddy Holly, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Johnny Cash and Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers.
And their harmonies are to die for.
“I’ve always loved tight harmonies ever since I heard my first Beatles album as a kid,” said Lisi.
Lisi and Skane, who are both from central New York, are Capital Region music veterans.
Skane, who grew up in Utica, played and toured with feisty Albany alt-rockers The Dugans and party monsters The Lawn Sausages before going solo in the late 1990s. Skane, who has been compared to an early Bruce Springsteen and Elvis Costello in terms of lyrical strength and delivery, has released four albums of original music: “Throwing It All Back Up,” “Nowheresville,” “SelfNoise,” and “Phantom Power Trip.” He considers his music “garagefolkrocknroll.”
Lisi, a Syracuse expatriate, spent most of the `80s as lead singer/bassist for Syracuse roots rock heroes The Cause. The Cause released one single (“They're Waiting for You” b/w “Hero”), notable because it was produced by Ed Hamell (Hamell on Trial). Lisi has played with several Capital Region bands, including pop/rock groups Girl Gone Bad, C. Jane Run, and 3 Minute Pop!
Lisi’s original songs are featured on Girl Gone Bad’s self-titled album, and three discs by C. Jane Run: “…You Must Be Jane,” “Happy,” and “How Do You Like Me Now?”
Though they've only been gigging for a short time, The Bremners have already made their mark; they topped the Schenectady rock charts on Reverbnation.com and have a slate of gigs lined up at clubs across the Capital Region.
They’re hoping your club will be next.
A splendid time is guaranteed for all.
