Blackkiss was born in 2007 during a solo jam session in the kitchen of my old condo. I bought my first guitar back in 2004, with a black pearl finish just like Johnny Cash's old SE Martin dreadnaught.
Blackkiss actually came from a revelation, from where I was told, "You're like the Sun and Moon at the same time. You are the light and dark, like a dark kiss..." So when I started making music I came up with "Blackkiss", a musical style that's a mixture of a lot of different aspects of music and lifestyles.
As a young boy living estranged in the heart of the Navajo-Indian Reservation, the only comfort was my grandmothers old cabinet stereo. It was fixed with a record player, cassette, A-track, and AM/FM dials. My grandma used to have an impressive record collection and I went through all of it. It would be fair to say that I spent a lot of time alone out in the desert lands as a child, so I immersed myself into music. A night I would tune the dials of that AM radio to random stations, that turned out everything from Blues, Classic Country, Jazz, Rock, Spanish Music, Talk Radio, Storytelling specials, and etc.
My imagination led me from that small one bedroom concrete home and out into the world beyond the reservation borders. I was so engrossed with this style, using song and words to take people away into far off places or even help them through some tough times, like my good friend Johnny Cash did for me. Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings, were the two biggest influences upon me. They helped shape the Blackkiss musical style.
