Bobby Katz is a 19 year-old saxophonist (tenor, alto, and soprano) from Long Island, NY. He has been playing the saxophone for over a decade and is both classically and jazz trained. Katz is currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Jazz Studies from New York University. There, he studies with the likes of Ralph Lalama, Mike Richmond, Billy Drewes, Dave Pietro, and Kenny Werner. Bobby currently performs with several of NYU's jazz ensembles including the NYU Big Band, Charles Mingus Ensemble, and Don Friedman Ensemble. He is also a member of the NYU Pep Band. Katz has received Nassau All-County honors three times and toured Europe as lead tenor saxophonist of an All-American honors band in 2010. In 2011, Bobby was the lead alto saxophone of both the NMEA All-County Jazz Band and Nassau-Suffolk Jazz Band. In 2012, he was the recipient of the Schreiber High School "Woody Herman Jazz Award." Bobby currently leads his own jazz group around the NYC area in addition to regularly performing with Long Island classic rock bands, "Tiberius" and "Rock Steady." Katz has performed at numerous venues in the NYC area including Tammany Hall, SOMETHIN' Jazz Club, Silvana, Sullivan Hall, and City Cellar.
