The Discount Heroes are South Philly. Nestled in the artsy and gritty neighborhood of the historic 9th Street Italian Market, and reminiscent of New York’s Lower East Side, you can find a band of 5 guys practicing harmonies, booking shows for the community, and getting fans up and dancing with their unique blend of harmony-laden, groove inspired rock and soul.
Frankie, Ronnie B.,Ang, Joe and Doug, have joined forces to fight the evil demons that have invaded the music industry. Their contagiously infectious songs will penetrate your soul and dispel the manufactured, auto-tuned jingles from your brain. As the band has grown from the acoustic duo roots of Frank and DH co-founder Rob Ogus, their sound has evolved and built an energy that is destined to capture your heart. Taking a page out of the book of their 90’s pop-rock idols, bands such as Weezer, Foo Fighters, and Pearl Jam can be heard in their music. However, you can also hear the influence of the Beatles and the Beach Boys, as well as modern rock artists such as Kings of Leon. Like fellow Philadelphians Dr. Dog and The Roots, the Discount Heroes' songs encompass many different styles and there is timelessness in their music. With the glut of one-off bands trying to capitalize on whatever sound or style is popular at the moment, this is a refreshing change for people who appreciate genuine music.
The DH are coming off a string of successful shows, performing to a packed house at The Legendary Dobbs in Philadelphia for the “Rock It! Science” Album Release Showcase, as well as a St. Patty’s Day NYC Release Party at The Alphabet Lounge, and most recently headlining the Connie’s Ric Rac 9th St. Italian Market Festival Stage in Philadelphia.
In 2011 The DH were invited to perform as special musical guest at the Upright Citizens Brigade Comedy Theatre in Los Angeles. While there they brought the house down at the historic Cat Club on The Sunset Strip. The Discount Heroes had previously earned its stage stripes by playing just about every small to mid-sized venue in and around Philadelphia since 2007, and were also featured on Comcast OnDemand Local Spotlight during this time. Out of town gigs include stops in Asheville (NC), Winston-Salem (NC), Virginia Beach, and Delaware.
Listen to the Discount Heroes and you will hear why the music these five guys from Philly make is so unique and so From It! And “From It!” Means Good!
