Recognized by the Chicago Tribune as a “Remarkable Woman”, Marisa Buchheit is known throughout the city as a talented operatic soprano, a folk songwriter, a music education advocate, and an event producer. She’s also known by her current title, “Miss Heart of Illinois 2013” and her former title of “Miss Chicago 2012”, both preliminary titles of the Miss America Organization. A native Chicagoan and a recent graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Music—where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Vocal Performance with Academic Honors and a German minor—Marisa has performed and made countless appearances at venues ranging from the Civic Opera House to North Avenue Beach, where she sang the National Anthem to kick off the 2012 Chicago Air & Water Show. Her most recent performance highlights include a recital at the Chicago Cultural Center with Pianist Luciano Laurentiu as part of the Classical Monday Series, and a concert at the Harold Washington Public Library’s Pritzker Auditorium. She has performed in operas and concerts internationally in Austria, Italy, France, and Thailand. She will be returning to Italy this summer to sing the role of Susanna in the Marriage of Figaro. As Founder and Creative Director of Fashion of the Opera, a charity fashion show benefiting the Merit School of Music, Marisa is a strong advocate for music education in the community. She is also a health and fitness enthusiast, representing the vegan community as the Media Representative and Grand Marshall for the Chicago Veggie Pride Parade. She will be running her second Chicago Marathon this year (2012 & 2013).
