Nixon WHO? In the world of soul R&B singer, Nixon Payne, superstardom is a given not an option. Her experience with singing in front of church crowds, universities, and talent showcases has molded her ability to entertain, which in turn has created show stopping performances. Nixon Payne’s love of music began at a young age where she sang in the youth choir. Growing up in Charlotte, North Carolina, the art of music was embraced by her family and in their own way each of them would show her the diversity and creative aspect of it. She credits her mother and aunt for introducing her to soulful ballads. As a child Nixon would spend hours listening to records on the turntables. She credits her father for introducing her to rock music and the great Isley Brothers. Although Nixon started to develop an eagerness and keen ear for music; it was her attendance of a Janet Jackson concert at the age of nine that ignited her burning desire to perform. As a teen, Nixon competed in talent showcases throughout her junior and high school years. In some of these competitions she walked away the winner, but in others she felt the feeling of defeat. She went on to college to only continue performing in talent shows and various organization events. Since this time not only has she engaged her audience in captivating shows, but she’s also refined her musical resume, opening up for popular acts such as R&B singers Monica, Raheem Davaughn, hip-hop, jazz artist Jonathan Butler, Wale, and alongside Grammy Award winner Ronald Isley. As she continues her quest for national attention she remains openly humble to fans in North Carolina who’ve showed her much love and support. You can catch her performing hits such as “Help U (Weight-Up), “Postman” and “Heaven” at clubs in the North Carolina and surrounding areas. You can hear her collaboration hit “Celebration” with the mayor Celinski on the radio and catch her video with Max Mason performing “Stay on my mind” on the Video Mix channel. While featured on albums with artist Brandon D (Carolina Legend) along with Max Mason, Veteran Eye, Queen LuvJonz, and the talented producer Gav Beats; she is working extremely hard on another album and is ready to bring a new sound to the world of music. You can catch her traveling now promoting “Songs about Him”, a CD with a few selections for her fans. She is currently traveling on the road promoting her music and building her brand. She considers herself one of the hardest working indie R&B artists from the Carolinas. Nixon has experienced several ups and downs in this industry but she continues to push Forward.
