Bio: BROTHA ROD
Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois... He lived on the near north side and the far Southside, being a product of the CHA Housing Projects (Lathrop Homes and Altgeld Gardens 73-82) and Golden gates. He fell in love with rap after hearing Grand Master Flash (The Message), because it reminded him of his life and his neighborhood. But it wasn't until he seen LL COOL J in the movie (Krush Groove), that he wanted to be a rapper. As a pre-teen he won many rap battles and talent shows.
By the age 17 he released his first record titled (Loud as a Banshee) under the name Ruthless Rod and on the local record label Banshee Records. Under the management of Outlaw Productions, who brought out the group OCU (Organized Crime Unit). He began to open shows for big name acts such as: Too Short, Ice Cube and the 2LiveCrew.
By the age of 20, he landed a job as a ghost writer and producer for the California Rap Label (Rapp Trapp Records). Focusing back on his career, he released several hood mix tapes underground in the early 90's. Caught up in the gangster rap lifestyle, he found himself in and out of jail for gun and drug charges which lead to him becoming a 6 time felon. After being released from prison in 1999, he hooked up with Legit Ballin Records and became a member of the group (Twister and the Legit Ballers) under the name (BIG RUTHLESS). He was featured on 2 of their classic albums and also toured with the group opening up for some of Hip Hops biggest acts. Which lead to him getting a distribution deal with Koch Records.
After years of beefing in the gangster rap lifestyle, he turned to GOD and created a new genre of music called (Holy Hood Music). And formed his own label entitled (GOD FIRST WORKS) where he released his first independent album titled (DELIVER US FROM EVIL). After having a stroke in 2012, losing his speech he had to go through a rehabilitation stage. Attending speech therapy and still keeping his faith in God. God blessed him with his speech and he has been on a mission ever since. A mission to bring the word of GOD to the hood, using the new style of music that the streets can relate to no one can stop him with GOD on his side.
“What the DEVIL meant for bad GOD used it for his good..”
