Fredyx is a Houston-Based rock band. The name is taken from its front man and founder’s name, Freddy (Alfredo Olivera), originally from Argentina. He has been musically inclined since he was a boy living in a home that was always surrounded by musicians, singers, artists and actors. As a child he sang in children’s choirs and played the recorder, his first instrument.
When he was twelve he studied guitar with Maestro Sergio Lavia, an Argentine guitarist and composer, who taught him classical guitar techniques from the Spanish guitarist Andres Segovia, and sixteenth and seventeenth century music for the lute by European composers.
As a teenager he took piano and music theory lessons (harmony, counterpoint, orchestration and composition are his passion). At the age of fourteen, his father gave him his first electric guitar and soon after he began playing in rock bands, his interest led him to quickly learn the electric bass and drums, as well as writing his first compositions.
In his twenties, while studying veterinary medicine at La Plata University in Argentina, his interest shifted to the bowed instruments (violin, viola, cello and double bass).
Freddy has participated in groups that include classical guitar duets, rock bands, violin duets, string quartets and symphony orchestras and performs a variety of music styles such as rock & roll, heavy metal, blues, progressive rock, celtic, country, folk and classical.
While still in Argentina, he joined efforts with drummer Diego Mancilla (Manso) and bassist Marcos Carbone and founded “Osprey”, a band that sang in English in a Spanish-speaking country.
Fredyx is a brand new project but with an extensive background of years and years of experience, with a repertoire that includes originals and cover songs.
He came to Texas in 2002, where he has been writing, teaching and performing tirelessly. He is a member and the guitar concert master for the Conroe Symphony Orchestra, as well as the new conductor for the Conroe Symphony youth Orchestra, and co-founder of “Spring Strings” (strings for every occasion).
His compositions include music for classical guitar, piano, chamber music, orchestral works, rock songs, a rock opera in three acts and musical accompaniment for the spoken-word (in collaboration with “poet in the dark”). His performances in Argentina include: small theaters; national TV; Estadio Obras Sanitarias; and radio networks. In the US: clubs; pubs; The House of Blues; The Warehouse Live; Continental Club; Cooks Ranch; Rice University radio station; etc.
Fredyx is excited about the increasing popularity in the Houston area and is looking forward to seeing you at the next venue.
