Slantpiece / Bio

Slantpiece is a 4 piece metal band out of Kearney, Nebraska. Formed in January 2012, and featuring Derek Johnson on vocals and guitar, Derek Tavis on lead guitar, Wryan Carpenter on bass, and Bill Sabah on drums. With influences ranging from Black Sabbath, Pantera, Black Label Society, Clutch, vintage Metallica, Slayer, and Corrosion Of Conformity just to name a few, their sound is heavy in old school riffing. The members have played in several bands over the years: SwiftKickSix, Crazy Horses, Under The Influence, Transcending Zero, and Somewhat Damaged.

Slantpiece released their debut EP, "Get You Some" on October 4, 2013. Recorded at Fuse Recording Studios in Lincoln, Nebraska, they teamed up with producer Michael Beck, (Abigail Williams, Paisty Jenny ,Split The Enemy) who also mixed/mastered it at his Mesa,AZ recording studio SoundVision Recording. The album showcases the band's ability to write catchy, yet heavy songs. Tracks "Muddy Water" and "War Cry" will get stuck in your head, while "World Of Chaos" and "Back Against The Wall" will crush your head.

On April 10th, Slantpiece released their sophomore EP "Second Wind". Again working with Michael Beck, the album takes on a different feeling to it. Heavier tracks like Ghosts Of Yesterday and Shallow Grave give the album a darker sound, while songs like Baptized In Whiskey and Stuck In A Rut have that familiar Slantpiece hook that gets stuck in your head. Second Wind definitely has raised the bar on overall sound quality for the band.

Slantpiece's live show is definitely where the group shines, and they look forward to playing shows anywhere they can.
They have opened for national acts Hemlock, Tracii Guns League of Gentlemen, and Janus, and have played several shows with Nebraska's finest metal acts like Faith Buried In Flames, TenDead, Dollarhyde, and Narcotic Self. Slantpiece won the inaugural "Exposed" music showcase hosted by Code Blue Promotions in 2012 at The Garage in Kearney, Nebraska. The band also brought home awards from The Pit Unsigned including Band Of The Year, Vocalist Of The Year (Derek Johnson) and Guiarist Of The Year (Derek Tavis).

"Get You Some" is available on itunes, cdbaby.com, and Amazon mp3 store. "Second Wind" is available on the band's Facebook merch store and at Smoke On The Water Vapors in Kearney.
