Kali / Bio

Kali is a teacher and professional spoken word artist, a dynamic performer and progressive-minded writer who uses poetry to promote literacy and self expression. She is the 2013 winner of the Women of the World Video Slam contest and placed in the top ten teams at the largest regional poetry slam competition, Southern Fried. Over the past ten years she has taught writing as a Fulbright scholar in Germany, as well as at Virginia Tech, the University of Tampa, and the University of South Florida St. Petersburg. She earned her Masters degree in English from Virginia Tech and her Bachelors in Creative Writing from the University of Central Florida. In addition to performing, Kali facilitates workshops for poetry and other themed events. Workshop topics range from writing and performance techniques to issues of social consciousness and human rights - specifically women’s rights and sexual assault awareness.
