He's the bubblegum stuck on the floor of the "garage": As his larger-than-life family entertainment persona POLKA DOT!, Ron Albanese writes power-pop tunes influenced by the record player constantly spinning in his head, where pop, bubblegum, punk, and good ol' rock 'n' roll swirl together to create a sound like no other ... except perhaps a band from Chicago.
While as a "child of rock 'n' roll" Albanese (POLKA DOT!) boasts boatloads of influences from the '50s up with the vinyl collection to prove it (The Four Seasons are especially evident, as well as Devo), the most direct lineage includes Cheap Trick, as well as Kiss, and the Ramones.
"Those bands form my holy rock 'n' roll trinity," says Albanese. "Kiss for over-the-top escapism factor and show craft, and the Ramones for the coolness, humor and direct approach. Overall though, Cheap Trick are the musical blueprint. I don't necessarily try and sound like them, but I definitely aspire to their amazing ability to write and perform the heck out of great songs."
As such, POLKA DOT! is unconventional, and catching on unconventionally. On the airwaves, his high-energy "Kiddie Rock 'n' Roll™" music has been programmed into the "purveyors of fine rock 'n' roll" and family and kids' formats; Live, his POLKA DOT PALS! band concerts are legendary extravaganzas attended by folks from ages 2 on up - the young, and the young at heart. In addition to the unique sound, the shows feature staging, costumes, special effects, and even lots of improv.
Kids think he's funny, moms think he's cute, dads think he's cool - that's what makes Ron Albanese / POLKA DOT! the one-and-only "King of Kiddie Rock 'n' Roll!"™
