Early Life and Career Beginning
Jasmine "Nari'J" Joi-Marie Burrell, music artist (born 19 November), is a singer, rapper and songwriter born in Morgan City, Louisiana and raised in Patterson, Louisiana and currently residing in Atlanta, Georgia.
With her distinctive velvety voice, Nari'J launched her solo career and came to prominence in Louisiana during the late 1990’s and early 2000’s with her first song “Everytime” and then “Another Girl”. She featured on Never Stop Loving You with producer and music artist Mr. Doe. Over the past decade, her work as a solo artist has proved to be influential on the formation of the hip-hop, R&B, rock, “Neo-Soul” and pop genres, respectively. With her career, she has achieved numerous solo singles across the western region of the south –central part of the United States, most notably in the Morgan City and Patterson areas, where she is most-known for her singles “Everytime” “Still Fly Remix” “Another Girl” and “Boy You Know”.
Personal Life and Career Start
Nari'J began publicly singing at the age of nine years old and the youngest of three children and the only girl (two bothers Andrew lll and Terrence) to parents Andrew Jr. and Cindy (Jennings) Burrell. Nari’J was raised by her mother and (Maw Maw) grandmother Joyce (Simien) Jennings of Church Point, Louisiana. She attended Patterson High School in Patterson, Louisiana. The Burrell family was great fans of Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Otis Redding, Jackie Wilson, Gladys Knight, Temptations, O’Jays, James Brown, Tina Marie, Natalie Cole and Whitney Houston. Nari’J has also been inspired by singers Beyonce and Keyshia Cole and would sing and play their hits. She collected their records, read about them and was influenced by their performing styles.
Nari’J came from a musically inclined family and sharing her work and passion for music is her mother and Maw Maw. From the time Nari'J began singing they have been her number one fans and supporters! In 2012, she signed her first artist deal with “Acire Haisi Muzik” an Independent Label out of Atlanta, Georgia. Isiah Pinkney Sr. is the founder, chairman, and CEO of Acire Haisi Muzik and is “known as” the multi-platinum artist 12 Gauge. He is recognized worldwide for his astonishing hit song “Dunkie Butt” mimicking James Brown famous plea (Please, Please, Please). Nari’J self-titled album “Nari’J” is set to be released in 2013, including songs “Dip It Low” and I’m So Throo’, and more.
