Jack O'Brien was born into a musical family in Blackburn,Lancashire, and has been performing on stage since the age of 6. His love of song-writing was born when he received a guitar for Christmas when he was 13 years old and he hasn’t stopped since.
Drawing from experiences past and present, Jack's sound has evolved into a genre of intricate, thought-provoking acoustic music performed with captivating conviction.
Jack O’Brien’s debut album, ‘Another World’ on L-Sound Records, is an enticing example of his warm, powerful vocals and insightful lyrics that provide a welcome relief to the generic efforts of today’s acoustic scene.
It’s Jack’s live performances, however, that showcase his impressively diverse voice at its finest. Comparisons to Ray LaMontagne are testament of his stunning ability to create a compelling emotional climax in each and every song. From the evocative and temperate ‘Free’ to the epic ‘Tired’ Jack manages to switch from a gentle, controlled resonance to husky soaring vocals with effortless ease.
The album’s opening track ‘Orange and Yellow’ starts with the seductive thump of an acoustic bass string that builds to a pulsating brew of piano, guitar and strings to create a spine-tingling sense of contentment. Tracks like ‘Free’ and ‘Island in the Sun’ perfectly represent an album that never fails to delight with Jack’s astonishingly huge, pitch-perfect range performed on a rich acoustic stage.
The quality of his music has seen Jack O’Brien headline Suffolk’s Leestock festival and secured a residency at Bed Springs’ Music night in Camden, which is now into its fifth year. Other gigs have resulted in packed out venues such as Monkey Chews, The Half Moon in Putney and The Icarus Club. Radio interest includes a feature slot on Radio West Suffolk’s Monday Night Live show.
