Shalane earned a Bachelor’s of Music in Jazz Vocal Performance from Cornish College of the Arts in 2010. Aspiring to be a professional vocalist, performing, recording and teaching, she is experienced and open-minded to different genres and musical opportunities in the industry. An ear for harmonizing and blending with others has always been a passion of hers and she is open to collaborate with more musicians; singing solo and back-up, live and in studio. Please contact to hire a quick learner, comfortable performer and natural harmonizer. She is currently teaching voice lessons at the Seattle Drum School of Music at both the north and south locations! Thank you for your support.
At the age of six Shalane discovered her voice and has continued to focus her life around this passion. She grew up in Bend, OR, singing in several groups and was often chosen as a soloist for many events, starting at a young age. She sang in junior high and high school jazz and concert choirs; and was a member of the touring Youth Choir of Central Oregon for six years. Her private vocal training ranged from show tunes to classical and jazz technique. Winning many talent shows over the years and the classical voice district competition sent her to State Competition, as a freshman in high school. Shalane and her band played at the Deschutes County Fair for five consecutive summers. She was regularly chosen to sing the national anthem for many sports games, as well as for a crowd of 3,000 at her class graduation. Winning the High Desert Idol Competition in Oregon sent her to audition for American Idol in’06 which went well but didn't get her through.
Her music education at Cornish included fundamental ear training, theory, rhythm, piano-proficiency, arranging, transposing charts, leading a band, performing regular concerts and organizing recitals. She was a member of Jazz, Blues, Latin and vocal acapella ensembles, a musical theatre and songwriting class. Jay Thomas’ Big Band was featured accompanying her at her senior recital. This experience furthered her skills to be a well rounded and knowledgable musician as well as a more technically trained vocalist.
