Rocket Surgery is a 4 piece Seattle-based rock band featuring former members of Skin Yard, Gruntruck and Slippage.
Sharing the vocal and guitar duties are stereo sirens Franke O. and Allison Maryatt. Representing the male of the species, we have Jack Endino on bass and Scott Rockwell, formerly Scott McCullum) on drums.
This band boasts a powerful rhythm section paired with dueling Les Pauls, Solid vocal harmonies tie the sound together. The sound is guitar-heavy, chunky and melodically eloquent. Influences include Queens of the Stone Age, Nirvana, Soundgarden, and others dwelling in the sonic neighborhoods of punk, grunge and barbershop quartet. The band is somewhat newly formed, having emerged in 2011. Show venues so far have included the Rendezvous Jewel Box, Bogart’s, The Mix and the Skylark Cafe.
The self titled EP was recorded in 2012 at Soundhouse by Jack Endino. Everybody knows who Jack is and what he does, so we won’t blather on about him. We think it’s pretty good. The production style is spare but rich, No monkies, no smoke, no mirrors.
Primary songwriter, Frankie O. delivers a gritty, NYC style groove upon which the rest build to craft a sound that is heavy, melodic and strangely beautiful, in an urban, post-everything kind of way.
We like to call it Estrogen Rock.
