The Southbound Band (SB) is a progressive team of musicians all from Monroe County, in rural southeastern Tennessee, striving to continue the true spirit of classic and contemporary outlaw music with southern style.
SB has gained a solid reputation as Tennessee’s premier outlaw country music, dance, party and show band. With originals that have been described as “Songs with substance” and “an intoxicating heartbreak”. If you look at the band’s experience it’s no surprise. The members of the SB are no strangers to the performing world, with the first performance in 2006. The chemistry that has evolved from these guys coming together is amazing.
Randy Woody, Lead Singer and founding member of SB is a talented musician and songwriter. He has currently written all of the SB original songs. Randy Woody delivers heartfelt intoxicating lyrics with his signature deep voice used to full effect to deliver SB’s unique and outlaw country style. Randy takes to the band stand each night with a passion and fever just as hot as the song burning in his heart, always tipping his hat to the country music greats that have paved this road before him. Lead Guitar, Jason Harris plays with a passion and drive that you hardly find in today’s popular music. Jason is a born leader, and you can see it in every note he plays as he conducts the rhythm section like a musical general. It is no doubt that his tireless work ethic and attention to detail have been a key part of the team that makes up Southbound. Jonathon Cook, SB’s Rhythm Guitarist a truly talented musician and song writer and one of the founding members of SB, when asked what’s the point in playing every weekend and why does he do it? Jonathan simply smiles and says “Someday if the good Lord lets me live to be old and gray, I won’t sit there rocking back and forth, thinking about what could have been and wishing I would’ve tried to follow my dream, because right now I’m living it.” Phil Davis, Bass Player has played on a professional level most of his life. He has worked with many country legends in the 25 plus years he has been in the music industry, performing on stage for over 15 years at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, TN. Phil has also been featured in many bass guitar periodicals and has had an endorsement with Tradition Bass Guitars. Aaron Kirby, Keyboardist for SB has brought his and his late father’s dream to a reality by joining the Southbound Band. He delivers a full bodied sound and a truly fun-loving presence to the stage. SB’s Drummer, Blake Rider growing up in a family of musicians he knew from an early age that drums would be his passion. Blake adds his rock steady drumming and passion for the stage to complete the sound that is the Southbound Band.
The Southbound Band is currently writing and recording material for a new album, and playing local clubs as well as outdoor festivals. Southbound is a band that is driven by their passion for outlaw country music, and their unyielding desire to create and entertain. It is that intensity that is captured every time the Southbound Band steps on stage.
