Described as "one of the rising stars in 2013" (The D.O.N Blog), For The Year faithfully injects their music with energy and passion. Founded in September, 2012, when guitarists Steve Van Geyte and Luke Nagel joined together with singer/bass player Jake Milette and drummer Devin Congdon, For The Year quickly made their way into the Boston music scene, playing at all the major venues in New England. Musically, the band combines the upbeat vibes of pop punk with more edgy influences stemming from different alternative genres, such as post-hardcore. The Siren Agency describes it as ranging from "upbeat" to "mellow and relaxed…taking you places where music is supposed to".
Since coming together, the band has released a five song EP titled "Last Night" which acquired many positive reviews from different blogs and magazines such as "Pop Vulture Magazine", and the "Hit Or Miss Blog". "(Last Night) The 5 song-long EP brings a punch of upbeat energy and that classic pop-punk sound" says Hit Or Miss author Paige Kochanski, "It fits into the same shelf as bands like Yellowcard and Man Overboard. Being the first debut, For The Year is already musically and especially vocally, well ahead of their band's years." On top of all of this, the band's debut EP has been put in rotation on various radio stations such as Boston's 92.5 The River. Aside from the EP, the band has released two live studio session videos, bringing in tens of thousands of hits on YouTube.
As a collective the band has recieved numerous awards such as "Band of the Week" from The Siren Agency, and first place in the 2013 GIV Battle of the Bands. Currently, the band is on tour, sharing the stage with bands such as Transit, The Venetia Fair, What Happened In Vegas, and Darling Parade, promoting the release of their debut EP Last Night, and is also writing new songs for a full length album that they intend to begin recording Fall 2013.
