Leaving civilization after a hard year to spend a winter in the Rocky Mountains proved to be nearly fatal. With nothing more than a tent and enough food to make it through the winter, I barely survived the rigors of living with next to nothing at 8000 feet of elevation. Even paradise can have you in its death grips when the weather turns and the snow is up to your waist in a single storm. Fighting below zero winds and the ever present fear of snow slides almost froze all inspiration out of me and left me in a mode of survival only to try to stay alive in the Bitter Selway.
The Bitter Selway won Embassy Music’s national songwriting contest in 2000 which subsequently led to their move from Boise, ID to the music mecca of the south Nashville, TN. They've previously had 2 publishing deals with Embassy Music and Brandon Hills Publishing and have completed their 7th project-a 5 song EP entitled Cold As Numbers. They are currently the 1st place winner in the USA Songwriting Competition for the lyric category and were voted the best 14 Acts of the Southeast by Discmakers in 2007. Their music is influenced by artists like Fleet Foxes, Grizzly Bear, The White Stripes, and The Black Keys.
In addition to that, The Bitter Selway are writers for the Songs Of Love Organization which writes customized songs for kids with terminal illneses. They have had 3 songs picked up by Warner Brothers Telepictures Music and were the artist of the month with them in March 2009-also the same month that they had a hold with “Grey’s Anatomy.” The Bitter Selway were also a second place winner in the 2009 USA Songwriting Competition, is on a rock compilation ablum called “The Next Big Thing In Rock”, and were rated #17 in the college market in 2009 for their album “Where You Move Me.” They have also been featured on Nashville’s Lightning 100 new artist spotlight in July 2009. Their film placements include: Life Unexpected, The Young And The Restless, Palisades Pool Party, Surprise Homecoming and Nickelodeon's Hollywood Heights. Recently they had a hold with Vampire Diaries and were chosen to be on a mix CD called “Get In The Mix” which is came out in late 2011.
