Zvonsky is a lonely planet guide to the old music of South-East Europe. Bundled into a gypsy caravan with this seven piece instrumental, you’ll encounter swift exotic melodies, tight horn arrangements and infectious odd rhythms that only your windscreen wipers can understand.
Described as ‘gypsy music with class’ you can taste Balkan, Klezmer and Turkish flavours in their repertoire, as well as a few quirky originals. Well endowed with Sax, Trumpet, Flute, Violin, Guitar, Double Bass and Drums, Zvonsky is a cast of seasoned musicians who have performed regularly on world music stages such as Woodford, the Powerhouse and BEMAC.
Since their birth busking the banks of the Brisbane River in 2011, Zvonsky have been sharpening their sound at multicultural festivals, dance halls and local Brisy bars, supporting acts like The Woohoo Revue. From large festivals to intimate art galleries they are qualified for almost any space, sporting a characteristic home-engineered suitcase drum kit.
If you happen across Zvonsky, don’t be surprised to find yourself crowd surfing like a groom at a Jewish wedding or lamenting tragic love songs in a group-hug with old Bosnian men.
Be one of the lucky few to remember how to spell the band name and you certainly won’t regret it!
