Paul Pierce Biography
Growing up in a small Midwestern town made it easier for Paul Pierce to pursue music as a singing drummer rather than get caught up in the hustle of city life. He moved to southern California searching for fame and fortune and soon found himself learning piano and guitar, and writing original music. A huge fan of Steely Dan, Eric Clapton, Tower of Power and funk-flavored bands in general, Paul’s songs began taking on those elements and over time he has written more than 400 songs, many of which have been described as “very Steely Dan-like.”
Over the years Paul has played with artists such as The Drifters, The Coasters, The Crests, The Band, Bo Diddley, and in bands with members of touring groups Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Al Jareau, Michael Jackson and others.
However, with 400-plus songs already written Paul finally recorded his first original CD entitled Back To Yesterday, and has followed it up with his second CD, Pierce My Heart, by the Paul Pierce Project. Pierce My Heart consists of 13 original songs and once again peers described it as "similar to Steely Dan." The first video from this CD, tongue-in-cheek original “Keep A Secret,” has been described as Steely Dan Meets Weird Al Yankovic while studying the tabloids, the paparazzi and their endless pursuit of the rich and famous.
He keeps his drumming skills tuned up by playing and singing with his band, Open Road; a pop cover and instrumental jazz project in southern California. Open Road is nearly finished with their 3rd album on Rhombus Records.
Paul Pierce continues writing and recording music and shooting and editing music videos while promoting Pierce My Heart by The Paul Pierce Project. His band, Open Road, plays venues throughout the greater Los Angeles area and continues to promote their original music projects as well. Open Road plays several Paul Pierce songs during any given evening’s performance allowing Paul the opportunity to sing and play drums which takes him right back to his roots as a stage performer and songwriter. And the world keeps spinning.
